Pastor Joel Wheelersburg
"I've grown up in Aurora,
Pastor Joel was born in Brighton, Colorado. But early in life, Aurora became home and it has remained home for most of his life. Joel even met his wife Stephanie while attending Smoky Hill High School.
At age 18, after a long stretch of rebellion, Joel surrendered his life to Jesus Christ.
Soon after Jesus became Lord over Joel and Stephanie they followed God's lead to Murrieta, CA. where they attended Calvary Chapel Bible College for one semester.
While in Murrieta Joel and Stephanie prayed and came to a decision to attend the Bible College extension campus in Honolulu, HI. From 2006 to 2009 Joel and Stephanie served along-side the team at Calvary Chapel of Honolulu in Aiea.
During their time in Hawaii Stephanie served with children in the preschool, children's ministry and youth ministry. Joel served on their campus as a landscaper, janitor and also in taking care of some campus maintenance. He would later be asked to step into a Youth Pastor and Assistant Pastoral role.
In 2009, after four years serving in Honolulu, Joel and Stephanie prayerfully followed God's lead in returning to Aurora, Colorado.
Pastor Joel then came along-side Pastor Ed Taylor and the Calvary Aurora team serving as youth and assistant pastor from 2009 to 2015. In 2012 Pastor Joel knew that Church planting had been something heavy upon his heart, and after a couple of trips seeking and praying for God's guidance he sensed that the Lord was moving them to begin a work in the more northern part of Aurora, close to where he grew up and went to elementary school.
Calvary Reach had their first meeting in August of 2015 and is currently meeting at Peoria Elementary School at 10AM each Sunday.
